Welcome to Fishing Field Fork: Fly Fishing, Camping & Real Food

There are thousands of travel blogs out there telling you the "top ten places to visit" in the UK. Most of them are written by people who have never actually set foot on the campsites they’re recommending, let alone tried to pitch a tent in a coastal gale or find a decent bite to eat nearby.
That’s not what this site is about.
Welcome to Fishing Field Fork. This is a project born out of a pretty simple obsession: packing up the gear, heading off in the camper—especially now that summer is here and the weather is right—finding the absolute best local food and drink this country has to offer, and casting a line into a river or reservoir whenever the opportunity pops up.
If you are looking for a highly polished, luxury travel guide, you’re in the wrong place. But if you want honest, field-tested recommendations on the best independent spots and genuine stay cation routes, you’ll feel right at home here.
Summer Camping & The Local Food Hunt
For me, summer camping is all about the freedom of the road, but I am right off those generic, bland supermarket barbecue packs.
When we pull up to a new area, the first thing we do is scout out the local food scene. We aren't just looking for high-end farm shops either; we are hunting down the real heart of the community. On this site, I’ll be reviewing:
Proper Local Pubs: The ones with roaring fires (even in summer evenings), independent local ales, and proper pub grub.
Hidden Restaurants & Cafés: Where you can grab a brilliant morning breakfast or a great evening meal made with regional ingredients.
Top-Tier Takeaways: Because let’s be honest, after a long day on the road or by the water, sometimes you just want a massive, mind-blowing Indian takeaway or a proper chippy to take back to the van.
A Bit of Fly Fishing on the Side
I’m also taking my gear along for the ride. I won’t pretend every summer trip is a hardcore angling expedition, but if a campsite is near a wild trout stream or a big stillwater reservoir, the rods are coming out.
I’m a firm believer in using kit that actually works, not just whatever is shiny and new. You won’t find me hyping up expensive gear just for the sake of it. If a piece of tackle survives years of brutal British weather on the bankside Fly Fishing, I’ll tell you about it. If it’s rubbish, I’ll tell you that too.
Good and Learning: What to Expect Next
The website is brand new, and honestly, it’s going to be a work in progress. I’m not a web designer or a professional food critic—I’m just an outdoorsman sharing what works and what doesn't.
Over the coming weeks, I’ll be dropping our first proper summer trip reports, detailing the routes we take, the campsites worth your time, and the eateries that deserve your money.
Nice one for stopping by. Grab a brew, have a look around, and I’ll see you out in the field.
