Twitey's Camping Quick Summary
Camped at Twitey's Camping and Glamping Meadows in Wellesbourne, Warwickshire, on the motorbike last year. Fourteen acres of proper wildflower meadow camping, tucked away just outside Stratford upon Avon, and the kind of quiet, back to basics site that's stuck with me since. Very chilled out, and a great location for exploring the area.
Won Best Campsite Overall and was runner up for Best Family Campsite in campsites.co.uk's 2024 West Midlands awards too, so it's not just me who rates it.

The Info
Location: Twitey's Camping and Glamping Meadows, Lowe Farm, Hunscote Lane, Wellesbourne, Warwick, CV35 9EX. About 4 miles east of Stratford upon Avon and 8 miles south of Warwick.
Hookup: None, vehicles are kept in the car park, away from the pitches, wheelbarrows provided to wheel your gear down. Motorcycles have their own small fee (with the car fee refunded), and it makes the wheelbarrow trick even more useful with panniers to lug across the meadow.
Dogs: Not allowed, except assistance dogs by prior arrangement.
Fires: Every pitch has its own sunken fire pit. Logs, kindling and firelighters sold in the on site shop. No music through speakers anywhere on site, acoustic guitars only, and quiet hours run 9:30pm to 7am.
Showers: Private showers and changing areas, flushing toilets with washbasins and mirrors. Check-in/out: Check in 2pm –7:30pm, check-out 11:30am.
Facilities: Washing up sinks with free hot water, free use of fridges and freezers, phone charging point in the shop (bring your own cables), books /games/toys, BBQ and wind break hire, small on site shop and café with a bean to cup coffee machine.
Play area: Car-free meadows with mown grass pathways for kids to explore, plus books, games and toys in the barn.
Best for: Seclusion, wildflower meadow camping, glamping (tipis, bell tents, shepherd's hut, yurts), day trips into Stratford upon Avon and Warwick Castle.

Twitey's Camping and Glamping Meadows: Getting There
Packed up my motorbike gear and set off. Route was through Henley in Arden, then on to Stratford upon Avon, before heading to the campsite.
Check-In & First Impressions at Twitey's
Once there, went into reception to check in, the lady on the desk was really helpful, walked me through a couple of good pitches to choose from. Cars and motorbikes have to stay in the car park, so it's wheelbarrows all the way across the meadow to get your gear to the pitch. Ended up setting up in the adults only area right at the top of the field, plenty of shade there, which made a big difference given how hot it was. Nobody around, dead quiet, exactly what I was after.

Setting Up at Twitey's Camping Meadows
Once set up, had a walk around to check out the site properly. It's a really good setup, nicely mown pitches with grass borders, a top field and a big bottom field as you come into the site. They've also got glamping yurts and shepherd's huts dotted about. Good toilets and showers, freshly cooked pizzas at weekends, and a really well stocked farm shop selling nearly everything you'd need while you're there, though the supermarkets aren't far if you need them too. Grounds are really well maintained too, lots of wildflowers and wildlife about, with great views across the countryside.

Food and Pubs Near Wellesbourne
Twitey's is well placed for food, even if you don't fancy cooking over the fire pit every night. The closest options are The Kings Head in Wellesbourne (2 miles, part of the Vintage Inns chain) and The Boar's Head in Hampton Lucy (2.3 miles). A bit further out there's Baraset Barn, one of my old favourites, haven't been for a long time now but it used to be very good, plus The Ferry in Alveston (walkable across the fields in about an hour), The Granville and The Joseph Arch in Barford (the latter with an Indian restaurant, Cinnamon Arch, inside), and Cottage Tavern in Ashorne. Stratford upon Avon itself is about 5 miles away if you want more choice.
In the evening headed to The Kings Head in Wellesbourne, then grabbed a takeaway curry from Shah's Indian, chicken saag with extra green chillies, and a roti. Got back to the campsite and ordered a pizza too, since they do them on site. Pizza and curry together turned out to be a great combination, really enjoyed that one. Had a couple of ciders after, watched the sun go down and chilled out, before heading to bed.
Things to Do Near Twitey's Camping
Charlecote Park (1 mile): A 16th-century Victorian estate featuring a deer park right on the doorstep (Note: National Trust entry fee or membership required for the main grounds). There's a nice garden centre cafe opposite if you want to grab a coffee.. Stratford upon Avon's about 5 miles away for the full Shakespeare experience, river boat trips, RSC theatre, all that. Wellesbourne Mountfield Airfield's even closer, half a mile, got a Vulcan Bomber, a wartime museum, and the Touchdown Café, which Twitey's themselves recommend. Warwick Castle's about 8 miles if you fancy a proper family day out.
There's also a 4 mile walking loop that starts right from the campsite, taking in Loxley Village and the Touchdown Café, plus a tougher 7 mile loop out through Wellesbourne and back via Charlecote Park if you want to stretch your legs properly.
The Next Morning at Wellesbourne Airfield
Packed up the motorbike gear, then headed to the Touchdown Café for a full English, the one Twitey's themselves recommend, as mentioned before, just down the road at Wellesbourne Airfield. Sat outside on the patio where you can watch the planes take off while eating. The large full English was £10.80, not the best quality items, but for that price it's good value. Then it was back in Brum town.
The Verdict Twitey's Campsite
Close to Birmingham, well set up, friendly staff and owners, plenty of shade if you pick the right pitch, and a great base for exploring Stratford upon Avon and the surrounding area. Good food nearby too, whether that's the pubs, the takeaway curry, or the on site pizzas. Add in the peace and quiet of the wildflower meadows, and it's easy to see why it's stuck with me since.
