My Gear: What’s In My Van

Fishing field fork logo

Field Tested & Current for the 2026 Season | Last Updated: June 2026"

Welcome to my personal gear guide. I don’t believe in collecting shiny, pristine kit just to look good on social media; the equipment on this page is the exact gear I pack into the camper van or strapped to the motorbike across the UK.

Every single item here has been used a lot, thoroughly tested, and proven to work when on an adventure. I bought it all with my own money, and if it's made it onto this list, it means I completely trust it when I'm out on the water or living by the campfire."

The Field & Gear: Life on the Road

Welcome to my kit bag. This space is a running journal of the gear, tools, and setups that make my time outdoors possible. For me, camping isn’t about surviving the elements; it’s about enjoying the landscape, finding a bit of peace, and eating incredibly well while doing it.

Depending on the trip and the British weather, my setup changes completely:

🏍️The Royal Enfield Setup: Some weeks, it’s all about stripping things down to the absolute essentials, packing light, and roughing it in a traditional tent with my Enfield motorcycle parked up beside the canvas.

🚐The Small Campervan Setup: When I'm craving a bit more comfort or planning a longer trip, I trade my motorbike for my 2009 black Fiat Doblo camper van. It has been a fantastic find, clocking only 22,000 miles from new. This setup allows me to enjoy the outdoors with a little extra ease and reliability, making it the perfect companion for extended adventures.

Exploring the Best of the UK

No matter how I travel, the goal is always the same: hitting the road to check out new places, uncovering hidden local fishing spots, and pulling into proper country pubs for a cracking pint of local ale.

I’m passionate about trying to skip the supermarkets and sourcing my food directly from the land. You’ll usually find me stopping off at rural farm shops to grab organic local meats, or foraging for wild ingredients right by the camp. These pages is where I share the honest reviews of the tents, sleeping gear, cooking gear, and outdoor kit that have earned a permanent spot in my pack.

🚐 Campervan & Field Equipment

Sleeping & Equipment

💤The Duvalay Sleeping Bag

When I’m utilizing the Fiat Doblo for longer trips, my sleep setup is centered around comfort with the Duvalay dark blue sleeping bag. This all in one system features a high quality foam mattress paired with a luxuriously soft duvet, providing a premium sleep experience on the road. It measures 58cm wide by 190cm long and is designed to fit perfectly on top of my 4 in 1 fold out single camper bed, which is the core of my micro-campervan conversion. Best of all, it can also be rolled up and stored very easily when not in use.

🔋Power & Off-Grid Setup☀️

My power is provided by the Anker Solix portable power station paired with 100W solar panels. It is a fantastic, compact piece of kit ideal for a small to medium sized campervan like mine. It features four different ways to recharge my devices, and it easily handles my fridge freezer, TV, and other appliances. When I’m parked up, I simply position the solar panels across my windows to soak up the sun and keep everything charged.

Off Grid Power & Propulsion 🔋

For longer trips or when the weather isn’t on my side, I carry an Eco-Worthy 12V 100Ah Lithium LiFePO4 battery. It’s a brilliant, long lasting upgrade that keeps my gear running for days. Because it features integrated Bluetooth connectivity, I can easily keep a close eye on my power levels, voltage, and remaining capacity directly from my smartphone.

Beyond the camper, this battery pulls double duty on the water; I use it to power my Electric Bison 68lbs thrust outboard motor. This setup is perfect for quiet, stealthy navigation on stillwaters when I’m out fly fishing, giving me the reliable, eco friendly performance I need without the noise or fumes of a petrol engine.

Food & Drink Storage 🧊🍺

The most important item in my setup is undoubtedly my TotalFreeze 45L portable fridge freezer. It’s incredibly versatile, running on 12V, 24V, or mains power, and it’s packed with the latest technology I can even set the temperature directly from my mobile phone. It also features an "Eco" setting to help conserve battery power, two separate sections, and a design that is both lightweight and strong. This is the heart of my mobile kitchen; it keeps my beers perfectly chilled and stores all the fresh meats and produce I pick up from farm shops, ensuring I’m always ready for a great BBQ.

Entertainment Setup 📺

For entertainment, I use a Cello 16 inch Smart TV with webOS. Because it is a 12V model, it’s perfect for van life. It comes with all the major apps built in, so whether I'm relaxing in bed or sitting outside by the barn doors while cooking on the BBQ, I can easily stream Netflix and all my other favorite shows.

On-the-Road Comfort 🚿

For keeping refreshed, I use the Flextail Max Shower, which is an ultralight, rechargeable instant shower. It’s perfect for my setup; I simply hang it from my barn doors with a flexi bucket underneath to enjoy a shower with surprisingly good power. It’s an absolute game changer when it’s really hot and I need to cool down.

Climate Control 🌬️

To stay cool and comfortable on hot days and nights, I use the Jisulife mini USB camping fan. It features four speed settings and is incredibly convenient I just hang it from my ceiling with a hook. Not only does it keep the air moving, but it’s also great for keeping mosquitoes away while I’m trying to sleep. from Amazon

Privacy & Climate Insulation 🌙

-To keep my camper comfortable throughout the year, I use thermal blackout blinds on the windows. They are incredibly effective at keeping the van cool during hot summer days and retaining warmth during the winter months. Beyond temperature control, these blinds help prevent condensation, ensure I get a great night's sleep, and provide essential privacy by keeping prying eyes out. I keep them on most of the time, which also adds a valuable layer of security against potential thieves. I got mine from Vechicle blinds UK.

Connectivity & Internet 📶

To stay connected in the countryside or more remote locations, I use a TP-Link 4G mobile Wi-Fi connector fitted with an EE SIM. This device creates a reliable, high-speed hotspot that ensures I always have a stable internet connection, no matter where I’m parked. It connects directly to my Cello 16 inch Smart TV, allowing me to stream Netflix or catch up on my favorite shows without the frustration of dropouts or poor signal.

Using a dedicated router like your TP-Link is often much more effective than relying on phone tethering, as these devices are designed specifically to maintain a consistent signal for multiple devices and can be positioned for the best reception.

Camp Seating & Kitchen Setup 🪑🍳

To complete my outdoor living area, I’ve kitted out my camp setup with gear from Stitches & Steel. I’ve opted for their stylish, minimalistic black gas stove, which looks fantastic and performs brilliantly. To match, I use their all black foldable table and the "Chairman’s" camping chair. Not only is the chair incredibly comfortable, but the all black finish perfectly complements the interior and exterior of my van, creating a really sharp, "cool" look when I'm set up by the barn doors.

Outdoor Cooking 🍗🔥

For outdoor cooking, I rely on the Weber Go anywhere portable charcoal grill. Designed specifically for travel, it is incredibly compact, making it easy to store in my van or carry down to the lake or beach. I love how well it performs; it maintains high heat for a long time, offers excellent temperature control, and produces a great smoke on meats. Plus, the folding leg design is a practical touch it keeps the grill elevated, so I never have to worry about burning the grass.

These are the main items that have earned a permanent spot in my pack, but when it comes to refining a micro camper setup, I could truly go on and on. There is always a new gadget or modification to consider for the next adventure, but for now, this collection keeps me comfortable, connected, and ready to explore wherever the road or the water takes me.
