Ellenden Farm Shop, Harvington
Coming back from Holycombe camping in the Cotswolds I decided to stop off at Ellenden Farm Shop cafe again for breakfast, last time was so good I couldn't resist going back. It was very busy as usual, which tells you everything about how popular this place is with locals.
Ellenden take their sourcing seriously. Beef and lamb comes from their own farm at Coughton, seven miles down the road. They also stock free-range pork and chicken from other local family businesses, the pork I've had before is from Woods Farm in Oxfordshire, RSPCA Freedom Foods accredited. Actually means something, rather than the usual "locally sourced" sticker you see everywhere.

Fridges are stocked with their own beef, pork and lamb, homemade sausages, bacon, pies, quiches. Lamb's prepped in advance and you can order it, spring lamb shoulder, diced shoulder, that kind of thing.
Bread's from Lawrance's Bakery in Evesham. Cheese from Croome Cuisine in Pershore. Herbs and spices from Fox's Spices in Stratford-upon-Avon. Milk straight from Mawley Town Farm, cartons or a refill dispenser if you've brought your own bottle. Cakes delivered weekly from a local baker.
There's a proper fruit and veg section as well, Jersey Royals, Cornish potatoes, local plums, and their own orchard produce, apples, plums and pears, which they press themselves into cider, apple and pear juice. There cider is superb.
One thing worth knowing, dogs are welcome in the covered outdoor seating at the back, but not inside the shop or café itself unless it's an assistance dog.

The Café and Setting
They've got a newish outside seating area now about 10 months old, under cover that looks really cool. Views are genuinely lovely, proper English countryside stretching out over the Vale of Evesham, chickens and horses roaming about nearby. There's a little kids' play with a football net too, good if you've got the family with you.
Coffee-wise, they have a proper espresso machine, full drinks menu. Espresso £3.20, latte £3.70, chai latte £4.25, flat white £3.70, americano £3.50, mocha £4.45, cappuccino £3.70, iced coffee £4.40, babycino £2. Syrup shots too for 75p if you fancy something different, mint, cherry, butterscotch, gingerbread, cinnamon, Irish cream, hazelnut, vanilla, caramel.
And handmade gluten-free and dairy-free cakes and flapjacks are also available for anyone with dietary needs.

The Wider Menu at Ellenden farm shop
Beyond breakfast, the lunch menu (from noon) covers plenty of ground. Homemade Beef & Ale Stew (£11.95) made with their own braising steak and local stout, Beef Lasagna (£13.95) and Vegetable Lasagna (£12.95), both served with garlic bread. A great range of salads too, dressed with Cotswold Gold raspberry and wholegrain mustard drizzle, roast beef reared on their own farm at Coughton, free-range gammon from the Outdoor Pig Company near Alcester, and roast chicken breast, all £12.95.
They also do a great Sunday roast a lot of the tables where reserved when i went in on Sunday, so that tells you something.
Ellenden farm shop Baguettes are a real highlight, served warm with a dressed salad, homemade coleslaw and crisps, all made using locally sourced ingredients. Pulled beef in gravy and cheese, sausage and caramelized onion chutney, bacon brie and cranberry, and free-range BBQ pulled pork, from £11.95-£12.95, plus a beef steak baguette with Stilton cheese or caramelized onion chutney at £14.95, all using beef reared on their own farm. A bit expensive i personal think for a baguette, unless its a really good artisan baguette, looking at the ones coming out of the kitchen they where normal baguettes.
Ploughman's lunches, my favourite, are £11.95-£13.95. There's also the Ellenden Steak Burger at £14.50, a 6oz burger made with their own farm beef and mature cheddar. For something more indulgent, Cream Teas are £14.95pp and Afternoon Teas £23.95pp, pre-booking essential, with finger sandwiches filled with MacNeils smoked salmon, Ellenden cold roast beef, and their own hens' eggs, plus fresh scones and locally made cakes.

Breakfast review
I sat outside on a bench after ordering at the tills. They give you a table number and bring it straight out to you.
Ordered the large full English again, even better this time round. Service is really good, staff are super friendly. Everything on the plate comes straight from their own farm, sausages, bacon, eggs, the lot. Proper field to fork.
Food arrived within ten minutes, piping hot, exactly as it should be. Two of their own sausages, two rashers of back bacon cooked just how I like it, two organic eggs from their own hens, golden yolks, properly runny, two field mushrooms, two hash browns, two slices of black pudding, soft in the middle. Heinz baked beans stewed down nicely, thick cut toasted granary bread with Netherend butter, and proper condiments on the table, Stokes brown sauce and Worcestershire sauce. A good 9 out of 10, easily.
The flat white coffee was ok, nothing special, but the food more than made up for it.
They also do breakfast rolls start from £5.25 for one item up to £7.75 for three, with local free-range pork sausage, dry-cure bacon, veggie sausage, mushroom, tomato, hash brown or black pudding, served in a Lawrence's white or granary bap. The Standard Breakfast is £11.95, the Large Breakfast £14.50, and there's a Veggie Breakfast at £11.95 too.

The Verdict
This is a must visit if you're anywhere in the area, proper farm-reared food, brilliant friendly service, and a full English that holds its own against anywhere I've eaten. Loads of car parking, decent toilets, and the café even has air con, a nice touch on a hot day.
Before heading home I picked up some of their topside beef from the farm shop too, always worth grabbing something for later while you're there. Last time i had it, it was bang on!
Already looking forward to the next stop here.
Overall 9/10
